Service Description
(No class Feb 17, Chinese New year) This four week course will begin to teach you to develop ideas for prints through sketches, ipad, collage and photography. Working from Hong Kong urban landscape , we will make visual notes using phone photography, pencil sketches and colour notes. We will then go through a series of exercises that will help to refine your ideas and move away from relying on copying a photograph which can often lead to overly complicated and difficult print solutions. We will look at composition and colour schemes and mark making. You will need to bring along a small cheap sketchbook in which to keep ideas, notes, photos etc for the duration of the course and to encourage documenting your process and ideas. There is no need to have done any printmaking before and if you have, this is a good way to refine your creative process. Week 1. On location sketches, phone photography. In studio refine choice of subject matter, begin thumbnail ideas. Week 2. Refine ideas to one subject, look at different ways of using subject matter to create print designs. choose two ways of interpreting one design. Weeks 3&4. Create one of the interpretations as a print Further prints can then be developed in Open Studio sessions with technical support from Lucy if required.
