Monoprinting bonanaza!
I find working in Lino really enjoyable but often feel I am relying on my 'comfort zone' and so I try to push myself to work in other ways too. In direct contrast to Lino, which is so controlled and pre-planned, monotype allows for haphazard, impulsive mark making. It is good to work in a totally different way as it allows me to think about composition, colour, texture, balance without the distraction of an image. Hopefully this has an impact on the lino prints that I make too.
The following prints were in response to the idea of shape and gesture. I tried to combine gesture within shape, mark making on my inking glass plate, rolling the roller over the surface and then rolling onto the paper to create an 'offset' image.
